Chen Xianglan,PhD,has worked as an Associate Professor at University of International Business and Economics after finishing her post-doctoral program at Peking University in 2008. Her main research area is cognitive linguistics and inferential pragmatics. She has been the head of seven research projects, four of which are on metonymic mechanism. One of the projects has been financed by the National Post Doctor Association (20070420267) and other three are associated with the National Elementary Education for Foreign Languages Teaching and Research (JJWYYB2006033). She has published more than 20 papers most of which are on metonymy. More than half of them have appeared in the core journals in China such as Foreign Languages Research, Foreign Languages and their Teaching, Modern Foreign Languages,and so on.
She has presented her research papers on different occasions, among them the 10th International Cognitive Linguistic Conference in Krakow, Poland, 2007, and the 40th Annual Meeting of the Societas Linguistica Europaea, in Joensuu, Finland, 2007. She has been a keynote speaker in China at the First International Cognitive Semantic Conference in Hunan, 2006, at the conference on Cognitive Grammar in Sichuan, 2007, and at the Symposium on Cognitive Linguistics and Foreign Language Teaching in Hangzhou, 2008.
She has co-authored or co-edited a number of books including English Listening for College Entrance Examination (Higher Education Electric and Audiovisual Publishing House 2001), Entrance Examination Directions and Practice for 2003 MA Students (World Books Publishing House, 2002), English Directions and Practice for Entrance Examination (Beijing Education Press 2002), English Explanation and Practice for Grade One in High Middle School (book 1) (Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Press, 2006), English Explanation and Practice for Grade One in High Middle School (book 2)(Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Press, 2006).
