Biodata Inmaculada Álvarez de Mon

Dr Inmaculada Álvarez de Mon Rego is “Catedrática de Escuela Universitaria” at the Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica de Telecomunicación (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM). She holds a PhD in English Philology (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), a Diploma for Overseas Teachers of English (University of Cambridge and the Royal Society of Arts) and a Msc in Translation (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). Her interests are Contrastive Linguistics, Translation, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). She is a member of the Ontology Engineering Group (UPM). With this research group from the Artificial Intelligence Department of the Computer Science School, she has collaborated in several national and international projects aiming at integrating research in natural language and Ontologies, especially in relation to the Semantic Web.

She has long been engaged in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and has published several books in this field and a number of articles on the study of technical language dealing with translation, discourse, semantics, and natural language for information technologies.

She has been a reviewer for several ESP conferences such as the International Conference of the European Association for Languages for Specific Purposes (AELFE) and the annual Conference of the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics (AESLA). At present, she is a reviewer for the LSP journal Iberica and RaeL, the electronic journal of the Spanish association of applied linguistics.
